The City of Hopkins has a sanitary sewer-cleaning program that includes cleaning the sanitary sewers on a three-year revolving schedule.
East of 5th Ave to Texas Ave; Highway 7 to St. Albans Rd; and Hopkins Crossroad to Edgemoor Dr.
A sanitary sewer jet-cleaning machine uses high-pressure water to clean the sanitary sewer. This high water pressure may affect your home's sanitary sewer plumbing. You may experience gurgling or bubbling water in the toilet bowl or you may smell sewer gas from your basement floor drains. If this does occur, flush your toilet and pour water into your floor drains. This does not damage your sewer system. The water that comes out is the water that is normally in the home's system (drain traps), not the water from the sanitary sewer in the street.
If you experience any problems with your sanitary sewer, please call the City before hiring a private sewer repair company. The City will come out and check the sanitary sewer in the street and determine the location of the obstruction in the sanitary sewer. If the problem is in our system, we will correct it as soon as we can and restore the proper operation of the sanitary sewer. Please contact Public Works at 952-939-1382 between 7:30 am - 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday. For emergency situations after normal working hours or on weekends and holidays, call the Police Department at 952-258-5321.
