Watch a short video about refuse & recycling pickup in Hopkins.
The City provides weekly automated garbage collection & bi-weekly recycling collection services to all single family, duplex, triplex, and fourplex residential housing in Hopkins. The City's mandatory recycling ordinance requires all residents and businesses to recycle.
Collection routes run on a four-day schedule, Monday through Thursday. For schedule changes due to holidays, see collection schedule.
For an additional charge, the City also collects brush on Tuesdays and bulk items on Thursdays. You must call to schedule these pickups. Yard waste is collected the same day as your regular pick up, and must have a yard waste sticker attached. Between June 3rd and October 3rd, yard waste will be collected on Thursdays only. Residents must call by 2pm on Wednesday to schedule a yard waste pick-up on Thursday. A yard waste sticker must be affixed to each bag.
Follow these guidelines to make sure that your refuse and recycling will get picked up.

Hopkins and Minnetonka operate a self-service recycling drop-off center open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Look for the cream-colored wood sign and enter using the driveway just west of the sign. The green containers are on your right. The Drop Off Center accepts the same items as curbside recycling, however they need to be source separated, not mixed.
As of January 3, 2012, the Brooklyn Park transfer station is no longer accepting residential trash. If you need to get rid of trash outside of your weekly pick up dates, please see Hennepin County's list of private landfills and transfer stations, search its A-Z How To Get Rid of It Guide, or call 612-348-3777.
