From the Hopkins Police Chief:
Dear Business Community and Rental Property Owners and Managers,
Hopkins police need your help to protect your business, the neighborhood and the community at large.
Quality video surveillance has become critical to the prevention of crime and the apprehension of suspects in our community and video security systems are more affordable than ever.
I am asking that you immediately prioritize the functionality of your video surveillance system and ensure your cameras are in working order. Additionally, at least 2-3 key staff persons should be familiar with it’s operation and a routine maintenance schedule should be in place to ensure operability at all times.
Other recommendations include:
- Downloading and storage of video should be kept for at least 30-60 days on a secure server or cloud based system that is easily accessible to staff should it be needed for review.
- Upgrades should be made immediately to inoperable and outdated system components should be replaced by licensed professionals (additional information can be found on the Minnesota Electronic Security and Technology Association). https://www.mnesta.org/
- A Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) security survey should be conducted. A written business plan for implementing recommendations to increase physical security with inclusion of best practices regarding security policies and procedures should be reviewed annually.
Note: This service is offered for FREE from the Hopkins Police and is conducted by a team of CPTED certified professionals. Please inquire at this link for further information: https://www.hopkinsmn.com/FormCenter/Health-Safety-10/Site-Surveys-53
Hopkins police value our strong relationship with you to ensure the safety and long term success of your business, the neighborhood and the community as a whole. Thank you for working in partnership with us!
