Homestead Applications Due December 31

Have you recently purchased a home in Hopkins? New property owners in Hennepin County have until December 31 to complete a homestead application for 2025. Eligible applicants must have moved into their home on or before December 1, 2024. Hennepin County offers an online filing application. All of the details about homestead applications are available on the Hennepin County website.

Rate Increases Take Effect January 1

In order to cover current operating costs and adequately fund capital projects, the City Council adopted rate increases for water, sanitary sewer, refuse, recycling and organics recycling. The new refuse, recycling and organic recycling rates will first appear on the utility bills received in January. Water and sanitary sewer rates will first appear on the bill received in February. Storm sewer fees remain the same. View the rate increases on the City of Hopkins website.

Broken Lights? Don't Toss Them!

Putting away all your holiday decorations for the season? If you come across string lights and extension cords that are no longer usable, finding a specialized recycling place for broken and unusable string lights is a much better choice than throwing them in the garbage. Hennepin County has two drop-off facilities that accept these items for free, including one in Bloomington. Find drop-off locations and hours. If you're looking to earn a little money for your string lights and cords, scrap metal places like Express Metals in Hopkins is another great option for recycling those items.
