Garlic Mustard Removal Volunteer Event is May 31

Join the City of Hopkins for a volunteer event to remove garlic mustard and learn how to manage it on Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Shady Oak Pond, 151 Shady Oak Road N. Garlic mustard is an invasive species that outcompetes native plants and takes over forest floors, preventing other plant regeneration. This invasive species has become an increasingly large problem in the Midwest and management is key for the health of our city’s environment. Sign-up to volunteer.

Cops N Kids Fishing Nomination Period Extended to June 1

The Hopkins Police Department is still accepting nominations for a few remaining spots for Cops N Kids Fishing coming up on Thursday, June 12. Cops N Kids Fishing is a mentoring program for third, fourth and fifth graders who are identified by community members as needing an additional opportunity for a positive role model experience. Working in partnership with local school districts and teachers, as well as donations from residents and businesses, HPD is able to educate participants on the importance of respecting our natural resources and encourage them to enjoy the outdoor recreational opportunities, all while fostering positive relationships with the police. Shady Oak Beach Opens for the Season June 7

Summer is nearly here, which means it is time to hit the beach! Shady Oak beach will be opening for the season Saturday, June 7. The beach is open June 7 through July 31, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., (10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 4), and August 1 through 17, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather dependent. Renew or purchase your 2025 Shady Oak Beach season pass to enjoy unlimited entry to the beach at great rates. You may purchase or renew online, or at the beach during business hours.
