City of Hopkins Mayor Molly Cummings announced on Wednesday her intention to resign effective beginning March 5 at 11:59 p.m. Cummings was recently appointed by Governor Tim Walz to represent District 5 on the Metropolitan Council and will be sworn into her new position on March 6.
Cummings was first elected as mayor in November 2015 and re-elected in November 2017. Prior to her service as mayor, she was a member of the Hopkins City Council.
“I would like to thank Molly for the time, energy and effort she put into Hopkins,” said City Manager Mike Mornson. “She is not leaving us, but serving us at a different level. It is nice to know we will have an ally on the Metropolitan Council.”
The City Council will hold a special session on Wednesday, March 6, to discuss and potentially fill the vacancy.
