[ARCHIVED] Press Release: Council Member Jason Gadd Named Mayor, City Council Vacancy Declared

Hopkins, MN – The Hopkins City Council last night named council member Jason Gadd as mayor. Mayor Molly Cummings resigned at the March 5 City Council meeting after she was appointed by Governor Tim Walz to represent District 5 on the Metropolitan Council.  

“I am honored and humbled to be asked to assume the role of Mayor of the City of Hopkins,” said Gadd. “I am excited to continue working with the amazing team in Hopkins that consists of the City Council and City staff.”

Gadd has lived in Hopkins since 1995, and has been a City Council member since 2012. Before joining the Council, he served as a Hopkins Park Board member, and was also the Hopkins Business & Civic Association president and board member

“Jason has been with us here in Hopkins for many years and we are excited to have him take over,” said City manager Mike Mornson.

The council will seek applicants to fill Gadd’s vacated seat on the City Council to serve until the term expires in January 2020.

Applicants must be a qualified and registered voter of the City, who shall have resided in Hopkins for a minimum of 30 days. Additional information regarding the position, including minimum qualifications, responsibilities, compensation and length of term, can be received by contacting the City Clerk’s office at 952-548-6304 during regular business hours Monday through Friday.

The City Council will review applications and conduct interviews, and anticipates filling the vacancy in April.

Applications are available on the City Council webpage and at City Hall’s temporary location at the Hopkins Fire Station, 101 17th Avenue S. The deadline to apply is March 22 at 4 p.m.
